The Warsaw Philharmonic Hall was founded by a group of patriotic aristocrats back in 1901. It soon became one of the leading musical establishments in Europe, and it was the venue for a number of international events such as the Chopin Piano competition. The building originally had a Viennese Secession style but after the obliteration of the Second World War (during which over half of the musicians perished) the Hall was rebuilt in a new style. Today the Hall is flourishing again, and many of the world's great orchestras have performed year. The annual Witold Lutoslawski Forum is one of several events to look out for.
